hello Tristan, thank you for writing and reading the post. we, too, are worried, which is partly why we have been writing about the topic with Mel Martin.
bias training and hiring efforts in the 1980s (when i was already in the workforce) fell short of sustainably driving diversity in organizations, and there was little reason two years ago not to expect such approaches to disappoint us again today. even if done in good faith, a half-hearted attempt at D&I might not come across as earnestly as organizational leaders hope. many organizations have made lofty diversity and inclusion commitments without the culture in place to carry them out.
but we can only hope to do it when such efforts are not being made for or done to us, but by us. which means that we all need to change a bit and for us, this might also mean accepting that some HR games might have some good to them, you know?
