thank you for your comment -- balance is very hard to achieve and probably also shifts over time and under various circumstances for all of us.

while we dont chose parents we can understand how the parenting we received and perhaps why our parents might have parented us that way. this can help us find patterns of things that we seek to avoid or preserve (like dating people who remind us a parent).

same thing with management -- sometimes we have choices. when we dont we can reflect on why there are tensions and what we can do to shift a narrative or negotiate a different arrangement and communication. helping us see that some of our bosses (and some of us) are and will be emotionally immature, and recognizing what this might look like and how to respond to it was our intention in this post.
